Quiet River Cowl

You’re going to love how comfortable the Quiet River Cowl is! It’s light weight and will keep you nice and warm without all the bulk of most cowls.

The Quiet River Cowl can be made in a weekend (or less) and uses regular worsted/aran weight yarn so supplies can be inexpensive too.

The Yarn

The yarn I used to make the Quiet River Cowl and its matching hat was Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran in colorway Dark Aubergine. It is relatively inexpensive and you can get enough yarn for the whole Quiet River Collection for less than $15.

Stitch counts are provided for each row and each size – yes, that’s a whole lot of math!

Your Perennial Sweater will be worked in these easy steps:

Newborn Preemie Blanket

The Newborn Preemie Blanket is my first blanket pattern release. In my head blankets are always such a huge undertaking. I wanted to start with something small.

You could probably complete this blanket in just a few days. The Newborn Preemie Blanket is made up of easy row repeats too! Using only 600 yards, this is probably one of my smallest projects too.

Sunflower Cottage Crochet Preemie Crochet Challenge

For the month of August 2021 Sunflower Cottage Crochet is hosting their Preemie Crochet Challenge.

For each pattern that you download for free for the event you are pledging to donate at least one of each of those finished items to a local organization for preemie babies. It could be your local hospital’s NICU department, local family in need, or an organization who specializes in premature babies.

Many families have been touched with the complications of premature birth. Both the mother and baby can have lasting effects of prematurity.

My Preemie Story

My younger brother was born 8 weeks premature. I was still too young to remember but my mother has told me a few times that she wasn’t leaving the hospital to come home until her baby was coming home with her.

Luckily we are part of really supportive families and my parents had help when my mom was tending to my brother.

If you saw my brother today you wouldn’t even know that he was a preemie baby. He’s now a grown man who is a big softy for his older sister (me), he can be an jerk 95% of the time but he’s my lovable brother.

Ireland Notions Bag

I had the pleasure of being the guest designer for the Leither Co. July 2021 Destination Subscription Box. The surprise destination was Ireland!

If you’re not familiar with the monthly subscription boxes from Leither Co. you can find out all the details here. There are a few options to choose from and range from $23 up to $62. Each month is different than the last and no two boxes are the same.

****Post contains affiliate links – which means if you make a purchase from the links below, I will get a small percentage of the sales at no additional cost to you****

The Subscription Box

Let me tell you about the subscription box I designed for and what it included.

  • 1 hank of hand-dyed 100% superwash merino – worsted weight
  • 1 handmade hook – size F or 3.75mm
  • 1 stitch marker
  • 1 magazine featuring TWO patterns and TWO squares for the year long crochet-a-long

There were a few extras included in the July 2021 box. These include a sticker, additional stitch markers, and a lamb enamel pin. These aren’t usually in the boxes but Ashley wanted to add a little something to this month’s box for all her subscribers.

The Ireland Notions Bag Crochet Kit

If you’re not interesting in subscribing to the monthly box, you can purchase just the project kit. I’ve listed below what you’ll get with the kit.

  • Digital download of the Ireland Notions Bag
  • Yarn needed – 1 hank of hand-dyed worsted weight 100% superwash merino yarn – colorway Ireland
  • (optional upgrade) Ireland crochet hook size F/3.75mm
  • (optional upgrade) additional hanks of yarn

The Yarn

Let us talk about this STUNNING yarn. Because it is hand-dyed no two skeins are exactly the same. They might be done in the same batch but won’t be identical.

As you can see in the picture below, there are varying shades of green with pops of teal. There are also splashes of pink and grey.

The Hook

Leither Co. hooks are by far my favorite hooks. The ergonomic hooks fit in my hand help with muscle fatigue like you wouldn’t believe. A whole lot of time and effort go into making these hook perfect.

The hook is made up of a Clover tip and a wooden handle, crafted by Ashley’s husband. They call the style of the different colored layers “Funfetti.”

The handles come in different styles and colors. I personally like the Tulip style the most. They just sit in my hand perfectly while whipping up a project.

The Pattern

You know that I’m a fan of texture. When given the opportunity to design for the July box I knew that I needed to do a project that has a subtle texture to show off the colors of the yarn.

Since I tend to design items that are easy to follow and have one or two row repeats, the Ireland Notions Bag was going to be the same.

The Ireland Notions Bag fits all the things you’ll need for your projects, minus the yarn. It will hold your printed pattern (folded in half or letter style), your hook, scissors, stitch markers, yarn needles, and measuring tape.

Due to using worsted weight yarn and a F/3.75mm crochet hook the fabric of the stitches is very dense. This will help keep everything secure within the bag and not poke out any holes.

I’d love to see your finished Ireland Notions Bag. Send me a message (links below) to show me how yours turned out.
