Aspen Washcloth – Free Crochet Washcloth Pattern

The yarn I used for the Aspen Washcloth is Loops & Threads Classic Cotton in colorways Pewter and Twine.

Supplies Needed

75 yards worsted weight cotton yarn
H/5.0 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Measuring tape
Yarn needle

Stitches Used

Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sc – Single Crochet
SDc – Starting Double Crochet

Stitch Definition:

Starting Double Crochet – (also known as Long Chain Double Crochet or Chainless Starting Double Crochet.)  Pull up your loop to the height of your usual Double Crochet. YO, insert into the 1st St, yarn over, pull through the St, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through the remaining 2 loops.

Gauge & Finished Size

Gauge: 17 Sts x 10 rows =4”

Finished Size: 9” x 9”

Pattern Notes

Written in US crochet terms.

The stitch count is listed at the end of each row. 

A Ch4 can be substituted for the SDc and Ch1 at the beginning of even numbered rows.

1.) Sc in 2nd Ch from the hook, *Sk 1, (Dc, Ch 1, Dc) in next Ch, Sk 1, Sc in next Ch, repeat from * across. (37)

2.) Turn, SDc in 1st St, *Ch 1, Sk 1, Sc in Ch 1 space of previous row, Ch 1, Sk 1, Dc in Sc of previous row, repeat from * across. (37)

3.) Turn, Ch 1, Sc in 1st St, *Sk 1, (Dc, Ch 1, Dc) in next Sc, Sk 1, Sc in next Dc, repeat from * across. (37)

4.) Turn, SDc in 1st St, *Ch 1, Sk 1, Sc in Ch 1 space of previous row, Ch 1, Sk 1, Dc in Sc of previous row, repeat from * across. (37)

Slumber Blanket Wander Kit

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until square, ending with row 4.  

Finish off and weave in ends.

The Yarn

The yarn I used for this project is Big Twist Cotton in colorway Sahara Splash. You can purchase it at Joann Fabrics. The coloring of this yarn is stunning I saw it and totally reminded me of toasted marshmallows.

You can use any worsted weight cotton yarn that you want. Use up some of your stash too! Other yarns that would work perfectly are:

Loops & Threads – Everyday Cotton

20-30 yards of worsted weight cotton
H/5.00mm crochet hook
Measuring tape
Yarn needle

Gauge:  10 Sts x 7 Rows = 2.5” square

Finished Size: 2.5” tall x 5” wide

Row 29.) Turn, Ch 1, Hhdc in 1st St and next St, Ch 1, Sk 1, Hhdc in next 4 Sts, Ch 1, Sk 1, Hhdc in last 2 Sts. (10)

Row 30.) Turn, Ch 1, Hhdc in 1st St and across. (10)

Border (optional)

Ch 1, Sc evenly around with 3 Sts in corners. Sl St to 1st Sc.

Finish off and weave in ends.
Sew on buttons, aligned with button holes.
